Hello! I’m Sammy Courtney. I’m a filmmaker with experience directing, writing, producing, acting, and editing much of my own work, as well as contributing to others’ narrative projects and working with production companies and advertising agencies. I’m comfortable taking on whatever role a production needs, and my long-term goal is to write and direct my own feature films.

I first fell in love with filmmaking in high school when I started making quick, spur-of-the-moment comedy videos with friends and family on TikTok. What began as something fun eventually grew to over 90,000 followers and 4 million likes. While I don’t use the account anymore, that experience showed me how much I enjoy building something from nothing and connecting with an audience. Since then, I’ve majored in Media Production at the University of Florida, where I’ve worked to understand every role on a set and refine my filmmaking skills.

Outside the classroom, I’ve continued developing those skills through hands-on experience — working on my own and peers’ narrative projects. I also work for the Gainesville-based production company BetterMe Productions as a PA and Director, directing talent, using audio, lighting and camera equipment, and engaging with clients from pre to postproduction. Double also, I work as a videographer for The Agency at UF in an agency-style environment. There, I’ve contributed to productions for clients ranging from national brands like Disney and L’Oréal to local Gainesville businesses. I’ve also taken on freelance videography and photography work, which has strengthened both my creative instincts and professionalism on set. I genuinely love being behind a camera.

Outside of production, I’m a big sports fan — watching and playing — and I spend a lot of time reading and writing. I recently finished reading The Count of Monte Cristo just for fun – no big deal. I enjoy being outdoors and spending time in nature, but honestly, I’m happy wherever. Really though, nothing compares to how much I enjoy making films and being part of a production.

I’m hardworking, detail-oriented, and driven. When I commit to something, I give it my full effort. I enjoy leading when needed and collaborating as part of a team, and I’m excited by any opportunity to continue learning and contributing in a professional production environment.
